PROJECT N°12

Hughes H-1 Racer — Engineering in Pursuit of Perfection

Some aircraft are designed to serve a purpose. Others are created to redefine what is possible. The Hughes H-1 Racer belongs unmistakably to the latter. Conceived by Howard Hughes during the early 1930s, it was built with a single ambition: to become the fastest aircraft the world had ever seen.

Every aspect of the H-1 reflected an uncompromising pursuit of aerodynamic perfection. Its exceptionally streamlined fuselage, retractable landing gear, flush-riveted construction, and elegantly tapered wings represented groundbreaking innovations that were decades ahead of their time. More than a record-breaking aircraft, the H-1 became a milestone in aviation design, influencing generations of high-performance aircraft that followed.

This sculptural interpretation celebrates the purity of that vision. Rather than reproducing every technical detail, the sculpture distils the H-1's defining characteristics into an abstract three-dimensional composition. Its flowing surfaces, harmonious proportions, and unmistakable silhouette are reduced to their essential forms, revealing the timeless beauty that emerges when engineering is guided by purpose.

More than a tribute to one of aviation's most influential aircraft, this sculpture honours the relentless pursuit of excellence that inspired its creation. It transforms an icon of innovation into a timeless sculptural interpretation—where ambition, precision, and elegance exist in perfect harmony.
