Few racing boats capture the spirit of Italian engineering quite like the San Marco KD800. Created in the late 1950s, this extraordinary hydroplane combined a lightweight wooden hull with the unmistakable power of a Ferrari V12 engine.
Built with one purpose in mind — speed — the KD800 was capable of reaching extraordinary speeds for its time. Its long, low profile and distinctive three-point hull gave it an appearance unlike any conventional racing boat.
Yet despite its remarkable engineering and Ferrari connection, the San Marco remains largely unknown. It belongs to a fascinating chapter of racing history in which designers and engineers were willing to explore almost any idea in the pursuit of speed.
This sculptural interpretation distils the KD800 into its essential forms. Its elongated proportions, flowing surfaces and dramatic stance capture the tension between elegance and performance, transforming a remarkable but largely forgotten racing machine into a timeless sculptural form.
