Ford Mustang GT Fastback — The Spirit of Bullitt

Few automobiles have captured the spirit of cinematic cool quite like the 1968 Ford Mustang GT Fastback. Immortalised by Steve McQueen in the film Bullitt, the Highland Green Mustang became a symbol of understated confidence, raw performance, and effortless style. Its legendary appearance in the streets of San Francisco transformed an already iconic American muscle car into one of the most celebrated vehicles in cinema history.

Unlike the extravagant designs often associated with Hollywood, the Bullitt Mustang made its impression through simplicity and character. Its long bonnet, muscular rear haunches, sweeping fastback roofline, and purposeful stance created a silhouette that was both aggressive and remarkably balanced. Stripped of unnecessary ornamentation, its design embodied a sense of restrained power that continues to resonate with automotive enthusiasts decades later.

This sculptural interpretation explores the Mustang's unmistakable form through a sequence of precisely arranged sections. Each slice captures a different cross-section of the body, while their gradual fan-like rotation introduces rhythm and movement into the composition. As the viewing angle changes, the familiar fastback silhouette emerges, fragments, and reforms — revealing the underlying proportions and sculptural qualities that define this legendary design.

More than a tribute to an unforgettable film car, this sculpture celebrates the enduring relationship between automotive design and popular culture. By removing colour, surface details, and cinematic associations, the Mustang is reduced to its essential geometry — allowing the strength of its proportions and the spirit of an American icon to speak for themselves.
